I should take up photography

You might not have heard of Belen Mozo before, but you will now

Recognize this woman? Yea I didn't either but apparently she plays on the LPGA Tour, her name is Belen Mozo. This is a picture from her photoshoot with ESPN the mag for the Body issue. I don't really get it but I can only hope there's more where this came from.  Any guesses on which other female athletes will be in the mag? Who would you rather have seen represent the women of golf in this issue? Check out the poll on the right side of the page and lets find out.

RIP Steve Jobs

I know this will be all over the Internet in a matter of nano seconds but the Steve Jobs has passed away.  He was 56 and love or hate Apple there is no denying his innovative and creative genius.  Condolences go out to the Jobs family.

Walk with Tiger

Not for an evening stroll on the beach but in the first round of the Chevron World Challenge.  I swear I'm not trying to turn this into a Tiger only blog, but what can I say the guy makes the news.  If you live near Hollywood and you would be interested in being told you're standing to close to Tiger please move away for the 10th time, you should check out this putting challenge.  Apparently when you show up to this event you will receive a voucher and some of them contain a red ticket (no Charlie this ticket won't get you into the chocolate factory). This ticket allows you to compete in a putting challenge which determines the oh so lucky guy or gal who gets to walk in the ropes with Tiger for round one of the Chevron. Yes this is a sweet prize, however being inside the ropes essentially just means you follow him around like all the other spectators except you can grab a bottle of water and a banana from the tent on the tee box.  I'm sure he'll also give the winner an autographed glove or ball or hat or something which might make it more worthwhile. I would totally go to this thing if I didn't live 2,000 miles away. Oh yea and if you do go be sure to wear your sharpest "Sunday red".

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2013, with your favorite player in Tiger's shadow on the cover

*note - picture somewhat related, apparently enough that it showed up in my image search results for the video game. So I felt it worked well. Plus I'm a big Jimmy Fallon fan.

EA Sports wants to get you involved in the marketing for their newest version of the one and only golf game worth playing.  I know you're asking yourself why me? and I'm asking the same but if you go to the games facebook app at http://apps.facebook.com/tiger-woods-bracket/ you can vote for who you want to see on the cover WITH Tiger for the next game.  They have an American brack and a European one, both including some questionable choices.  Rocco Mediate, Ben Crane, and Furyk are iffy picks IMO and the Euro side isn't much stronger.  I say we thrown in the wild card "other" vote and try and get Elin up there.

Get em while they're white hot

Hey guess what! Odyssey is now making the slightly popular belly (and long) putters available to the everyday joe blow now.  I have seen a few of them around prior to the last few days but who knows if they were custom sticks or just a motivated shopper. No matter now because you can search any site or dealer and they will have all the belly button brooms you could ever want.  If you do want one I would say buy it soon because they are sure to sell out soon because if the pros do it we've gotta do it right? Check out more at  www.odysseygolf.com

Tiger's gaining back some confidence

Tiger shot a 62 at his home course of Medalist GC. Setting the new course record which was previously set at 64. So what do we take from this? was it a practice round? yes. Does this still prove that Tiger can work his way around a course and still go freakishly low? yes.  For all we know he probably fluffed a couple of lies and foot-wedged a few from light rough to fairway. His "gimme distance" could've been 10 feet (mine's 15).  No matter how he shot it or what went down, the fact is we will be hearing about this and all things Tiger going into the Frys.com this weekend. Although the fall series event is like a JV tournament for Tiger it will give him a chance to post an official tournament score. Granted even if he does win or place top 5 everyone will say it was because it was only the Frys.com open who cares? I agree with the insignifigance of the fall series, did anyone realize there was a tournament in vegas last weekend? Being a big Tiger fan I hope he does well and gives us all some hope for the Prez cup.

Bite on the green good, bite in the mouth bad?

UnderArmour.jpg
This is the ArmourBite, looks like a regular mouthguard you say? You couldn't be more wrong. This is a performance enhancing mouth piece made by Under Armour (because the logos didn't give it away). The basic concept is that when you clench your teeth your delaying or wasting energy and not allowing a free flow of power.  So basically if you hang your mouth wide open with and let your tongue hang out the side you should be able to drive the ball at least 600 yds.  Apparently Hunter Mahan trains with one and who knows he might have even made a putt at the Tour Championship if he wore one.  Check out more info at underarmour.com.

Choose Your Weapon

Golf ball manufacturers are spending a lot of marketing energy into ball fitting as of late.  Each brand makes a bevy of balls with each having slightly different ingredients in it's construction.  When I cared less about actually scoring and just loved to go out and bash the ball as far as I can (still do) I never really cared what ball I played.  I always assumed the more expensive the ball the better, which to some extent can be true.  However, most brands make balls to accommodate how much us average golfers suck and they will makes us better.  So next time you buy balls (back from your wife) take the time to read the package and buy a dozen that will help your game.  That doesn't meen buy the ball that happens to be on clearance or the one that says "Add 70+ Yards to Your Game!". Try a few different 3 ball sleeves unless you dump 8-9 into the woods per round like I do then try them out by the dozens. In case you were curious as to which balls the pros like playing, GolfDigest listed the top 8 balls based on wins on tour. The most winning ball on tour was the ProV1x with 21 victories, then the ProV1 with 6, Taylormade Penta TP - 5, then Nike, Callaway and Srixon bringing up the rear with fewer than 5.

Wozzilroy?! For real...

Here is my new club @McilroyRory made for me.

Is anyone else wondering how Titleist can create the most intricately milled clubs and wedges in the game, but they make a custom name engraving look like they did it opposite handed with their eyes closed?  They probably give McIlroy one of these every half an hour just because.  I think McIlroy and Woz are a great couple, both phenomenal athletes. However this custom inscribed club is probably the most exciting thing we'll have to talk about with those two.

Bill or Bradley?

Bill Haas Celebrates

Bill Haas was a candidate for the Presidents cup prior to generously boosting his bank account by winning the Tour Championship/FedEx Cup. I wish they would have given him the $10 million in those burlap sacks with the big $ sign full of coins. Then he could have taken them back to his mansion and put them in his vault room and dive into them like they do on DuckTales. Keegan Bradley is hands down the rookie of the year and has proved his metal by winning the PGA Championship. If I had to make a pick I would run with Haas, not only is his confidence sky high but I think he is a more consistent player. The only reason I would be okay with Freddy picking Bradley over Haas is the fact that Keegan thrives off adrenaline.  I wouldn't say he loves pressure, but adrenaline. If the momentum is starting his way he has the potential to run away from the competition. In the end I look at it like this, sure tough decision for Couples but at the end of the day its only the Presidents Cup.  I consider myself a huge golf fan and I care about the presidents cup as much as I care about how short Winn Mcmurray's dress will be. Yes I will be watching but I won't be walking around with my face painted and waving an American flag.

Tiger Woods, Now Featuring Joe LaCava

LaCava will be manning Tiger's bag at the Frys.com in Oct.  They are apparently long time friends and LaCava has definitely worked with some big names.  I'm actually somewhat disappointed that I didn't get picked to be his new caddie. I sent him at least 200 emails with pictures I drew (in crayon) of all the trophies we would win together. Anyways...I am sad to see Dustin Johnson be left by the wayside for LaCava to try to take a ride on the wild media ride that will be his next few months.  DJ is without a doubt one of the games top rising stars (my personal favorite of the mix) and is now forced to go scrounging for someone to clean his grooves. Wait maybe that doesn't sound right, he's looking for someone to clean his balls? He's looking for someone to read his putts. You get it.

Stay and Play

I would love to travel down south somewhere and do some sort of a stay and play.  I've been to Arizona before and it was beautiful.  If you have any recommendations on nice but affordable resorts put a link in the comments and I'll check it out.

Arrival of Autumn

When the alarm went off for me this morning I had to check it multiple times.  I thought, how could it be 6 a.m. if it looks like its midnight outside. Despite snoozing the clock several times it never moved back to midnight as I had wished.  Is there anything more depressing than the time of year when you drive to work in pitch black and drive home in even darker pitch black? I'm sensing an early case of whatever that seasonal depression syndrome is because I am dreading winter.  Times like these make me wonder why I live here in the north.  I'm sure I could easily find a job and place to sleep down in Texas or something. I would love a 40 degree winter (if you call it that).  I always hear people talk about how we are so lucky to get to experience all of the seasons.  Are we lucky to slide around in stop and go traffic for 2 hours on a snowy afternoon? Are we lucky to step out of house to find that it's so cold your car wont even think about starting in the morning? I need to plan a winter vacation ASAP and give myself something to look forward to. Any ideas?
